"Once upon a time, an American girl, Gina, and a Spanish girl, Lorena, met in Sevilla, the Spaniard's home town. Eager travellers as they both were, they decided to make a memorable trip together before the cowgirl went back to the States after several wonderful months of adventure in Spain...."
And this is the result, a blog written in British-American English (Spanglish at some points) with a hint of Texan-Andalusian sense of humour that the reader may notice. You've been warned! :)
So...September 11th 2011. After an insufferable six-hour night bus from Sevilla to Madrid (unable to sleep) and a twelve-hour flight to Lima, we finally made it to Peru! Just a few things were planned in advance. All we had booked was the hostel in Lima and the flight to Cuzco and the hostel in Cuzco. Peru is such a large and diverse country that it is just impossible to cover the endless attractions it offers during a three week trip. But we wanted to try at least three different features of Peru: the coast, the Andean area and the jungle. Of course we did!
By the time we arrived at Lima, the capital of Peru, we were knackered (there you go, British English). As it was late in the afternoon, we just had time to stroll around our area, Miraflores. We found the weather colder than we thought it would be, so we wondered if we were going to be ready for the Andes two days later. However, the weather being so dreary all the time didn't come as a surprise as we already knew that.
After a chilly walk, we sheltered in a big mall, where we had a plentiful dinner consisting of typical Peruvian roasted chicken, chips (or "fries" as they say in American English ;)) and spicy sauces not suitable for a Spanish stomach but received enthusiastically by the Texan one. We also had a go at our first chicha (drink made from purple maize and other minor ingredients), which we didn't quite like (but we grew fond of later). After that, time to turn in. We saved our energy for the following day.
